Well, My Dog Is Gay...Now What?
67
Animals are, in many ways like humans. They have emotions, and personalities and even sexual preferences! My dog, a male Pomeranian, just so happens to be openly gay. I love my little guy, as any mother would love their own child, and i accept his choice.
I first noticed his odd behavior when he was about 4 years old. He was very prancy and flamboyant. I assumed all Pomeranian's were like this, so i didn't pay much mind. I started taking him to the dog park on a weekly basis to make some new friends (for him, not me) and he kept to himself, only dancing around the perimeter of the fence, ignoring the other dogs. When other pooches would approach him, he would get very temperamental! This was very strange, since he is a friendly attention seeker. I started to take note that all of the dogs that were at the park that day were female..
As the weeks went by i started taking note how he acted around other dogs, putting him in rooms with other male dogs, and watching his behavior. There was the chipper hoppy Winger i have always known and loved! When around other males he wears his smile big, his Polo collar popped and his nose implanted in the other males behinds. When he is surrounded by female dogs, he gets very temperamental and aggressive, growling, pointing his curly tail down and even in some cases snaps at the female. He is very popular among females, they often flirt and beg for attention, but unfortunately, it's just not what tickles my dog's fancy..
My dog is neutered, but doesn't stop him from kissing other dogs. I am OK with his decision, and of course love and support him and take him shopping for the clothes HE picks out. He has many outfits for all seasons and occasions including a Pea Coat, Ski Jacket, Boots, Tie and Polo Shirts. He wears a rainbow collar with a diamond bone name tag, with (our) phone number on it.
Lucky for me, when i got my cat, it happened to be Male.. and that is when Winger found his best friend for life.. My cat, Winger's little brother, MiLo.
He can be inappropriate at times too..
He loves to pose, and he is a camera hog.
At the end of the day, he is still my dog. I have dodged cars saving his life, put up with his offensive breath, sacrificed half of my bed for him... and i wouldn't have it any other way. Seeing his smile when i walk through the door everyday can turn any bad day around :)

This hub makes a great argument for those who believe homosexuality is biological. If animals can be gay, then maybe there IS a part of the DNA strand that makes it so. Who knows? Definitely a topic for research!
Winger is quite handsome! I hope his cross-species play doesn't affect his relationships with potential suitors, lol! Voted up!
I had three dogs and they also were all neutered. Two of them Ben & Fluffy were hetero but Buck was just definitely batting for the other side. The curious thing was that Buck was the boss (alpha male) so what the heck does that mean? Buck was not a bit effeminate quite the opposite in fact.
voted up and interesting... thanks for writting this as it may open some peoples eyes to the fact that there are gay animals everywhere and no-one really cares.
I have three Golden Retrievers and a rat terrier puppy. We have a strict "Don't ask, don't tell" policy here. =)
I had a Pom growing up. They are very vain animals. We shaved him one summer and you would have thought it was the end of the world. He moped for weeks. He would rather have been hot than pretty. I love your pics - he's really cute!
Wow! I never knew animals have a preference--something to observe and think about. Thanks, good story!
Haha, those pictures are great! With that tie on I can see why he thinks he's got no game with the ladies. What's his name? Winger? That's a great name. You rock.
He's so gorgeous. This was way funny. I feel like I know the little guy now. Thanks for a great feel good hub.
Goodness! both of your babies are adorable.
Maybe he had a difficult time with his doggy mom...and the scent of females just bothers him. Or.. Maybe he got along with a litter-mate (sibling brother) and just wants a bit of that(his childhood) back in his life. No, I am not the dog whisperer...but they are just ideas.
I enjoyed your story. I also believe that animals also have behavioral patterns similar to the. Once my underage cat was raped by a stray cat.
Your story is really cute..I have had at least 10 dogs in my house till date, and one was a Pomeranian, who was just too adorable. These dogs are very emotional yet adamant about pretty small things. They just want things their way!
labrashear funny about your Pomeranian. One of our dogs was called Fluffy (because he was a long-haired mongrel) 100% hetero but did he do a strop when he went for grooming? We were living in South Africa at the time and it got very hot so we took him for a trim. He was so moody for about 3 weeks.weird.
Aww too cute ! Thanks for the smile today . a rather odd situation , that only a mother could love and accept Lol , too funny and just down right awesome , i voted all the way across the board as such , and welcome to hub pages !:)
This is adorable and hilarious! You are very creative and your pets are very cool! Voting up and sharing...still smiling!

very funny - voted up and stuff - love the photos
Love it! Really makes you wonder, doesn't it?
This is so cute. Gay dogs. Who knew? Very well-written and I enjoyed reading this hub. I've never seen one on this topic before - very original!
I have seen some dogs that seem gay and others that are "happy" which means that they are switch hitters! :) Great hub and welcome to HubPages!
This was a very thoughtful and original hub..I once had a cat that was gay..my little girl told all the neighborhood kids he was gay..when questioning her how do you know he is gay?..Mommie he is so happy!..Welcome to hub pages..

I love Poms. I am on my third. Her name is Angel. Zorro was before her and he looked very much like your baby. And although he was neutered, he often tried to mate with my female cat Cheyenne who looks like your other baby.
just so funny...i love the story of your dog...and the friendship with the cat...
funny, wonderful, interesting..funny again. Seems that all they need to do to get hUManly close to us is talk back ..and in their own frustration they just bark..and if you don't pay attention, they will hunt you and most likely end up behind your derrier..somehow. Lol!
LORD
That must be an entertaining way to meet people, hey I heard they have support groups for owners and their gay pets, lol.
Hi KristiF,
Thank goodness they repealed don't ask don't tell.
Really cute photos and story.
JT
very funny sounds like a very entertaining little dog
Just loved your hub KristiF, I have thought the same thing about my dog who is a Rottweiler and my husband refuses to believe it lol!! really cute pics too. Well done, I vote up and awesome. :)
Fascinating story, and well written to boot. As you say, it might even open some eyes on the question of homosexuality; if so you have done the world a service.
Nice Post. It was fun to read it. I really liked your style of writing and the pics are cute. Keep writing.
Voted up and beautiful. The pics are amazing, the dog looks so adorable.
What a sweetie! Love the pics. My old dog and cat used to groom each other and sleep together too.
I too didn't no animals had a preference.
Kristi this hub was great. I too never knew animals had a preference. He is so adorable and the photos are wonderful.Great job :)
Interesting! I wonder if there are studies now to prove if dogs (or other animals) can be homosexual. Why not? Cheers.
This is a cute story. Love has no boundaries. You are either born straight or gay, animals and humans. Thank you for following me. I am pleased to follow you.....
I bought my little boy puppy a pink collar and caught flack from just about everybody,,, i just told them we'd gone to the vet and the vet said the puppy was gay -- should'a seen most of their faces,, i bought the collar because pink is one of my favorite colors, and i'm hetero last time i checked -- not that there's anything wrong with that...
I probably wrote you before -- i've been nominated for a hubnugget for "The Human Experience -- Time and the Hope of Immortality",, if you're inclined, I would appreciate your vote by tomorrow at http://hubpages.com/topics/education-and-science/3
This hub brought a huge smile to my face! What a great mom you are! Wish more parents could accept their flamboyant little boys! What a better world it would be!! The pics of your dog & cat cuddling together is just priceless. Loved this hub! Rated up, awesome & beautiful!!!
Great pictures with a great story. What is not to like. Well worth the smile and I look forward to more of your work Kristi.
Hi Kristi, I'm not sure if your dog is gay or not, maybe he just has not seen the right female for him. Loved all the great photos you used to highlight this hub .
Vote up !!!
I appreciate you writing this because I think my dog is a lesbian. My family thinks i'm just joking whenever I bring it up but i'm honestly not. She really prefers being around female dogs around her own height, may I add. And she has an attachment to my mom's dog. I think the feelings are starting to be returned.
This is a REALLY AMAZING HUBPAGE you made and I just gotta say thank you for writing this, I learned so much more about the Animals that I love and also try my hardest to take care of (even if I don't own the Animal and their strays and stuff lol). Your dog is just adorable and he should get some Rewards with how he gets his picture taken. And I must say...and I don't care what about says, this is REALLY cute.
lol....yesterday I was reading about homosexuality...and actually I read about an experiment which proved that animals too can be homosexual... You dog is so cute....i love him.... It's good that you are a supportive owner.
Hi, Kristi, ABSOLUTELY wonderful hub. Masterfully-written. Loved every syllable. You, my friend, are God-gifted. Anyone can sense that. I voted up and all across the way. I am now a fan of yours and an humble follower, if that is okay with you. Sincerely, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town (do not judge me by this), in northwest Alabama, Hamilton, that reminds people of Mayberry, where Andy and Barney worked. Peace to you.
rofl The inappropriate photo is hilarious!! Cheers for a great blog and welcome to Hub-pages!
maybe not gay, maybe just a poser who acts inappropriately just because he knows no better.
With a dog, does it really matter?
Morning Kristi.
First i must welcome the three of you to HP and hope we have more stories of you and the kids.
A super hub that had me smiling the whole way through. In our modern western world i don't think we bother to much about the Gay or the Lesbo scene, so Winger and Milo don't need to worry.
I do think Winger should go to a Photographic Studio and get a contract as a model, he's the tops.
Take care Kristi and have a nice day.

A had a mother mini lop rabbit try to mate with my female cat. Is that the same thing? Well the cat who ate wild rabbits was pretty terrified by this mini lop, strange things indeed. Maybe the female in all things are getting too brazen for the males.
Welcome to hubs.
